Swimsuit Buying Tips. Maternity.
Fit Pregnancy,
June-July, 2002 by Erin Rottman
Donning swimwear while you're
pregnant may be surprisingly liberating. For
once in your life, you don't have to hold in
your stomach: It's supposed to be big! Some tips
from top maternity designers for choosing the
most flattering Swimsuit:
* Shop early in your pregnancy.
Buying near the end of your first trimester
gives you time to wear the swimsuit and get used
to showing off your new shape.
* Stick with your personal style.
If you've always worn a traditional tank suit,
that's what will feel comfortable now.
* Look for a nylon-Lycra fabric
that will stretch as you grow and your suit
won't look baggy.
* Avoid skirted suits, they
add volume. A good suggestion is a sleek suit
with a pareo for coverage instead. Also
recommended is a halter-top swimsuit that can be
adjusted for bust support.
* Choose bikini bottoms cut
higher in the back and below your belly in front
to reflect the angle of your waistline.
* Consider a tankini. You can
lift the tank to tan your tummy or leave it down
if you want a bit of coverage.
